Johnson City, TENN— The ETSU women’s tennis team added another strong conference win to their 2026 campaign on Tuesday, Feb. 24, defeating the Western Carolina Catamounts in a competitive Southern Conference matchup.
The Bucs controlled the pace from the beginning, capturing the doubles point. ETSU’s top doubles pair controlled the tempo from the baseline, while No.2 duo sealed with aggressive net play and consistent serving. The early lead gave the Blue & Gold momentum, the Bucs 1-0 going into singles.
In singles, ETSU continued to build on that energy. The Bucs earned straight-set victories on multiple courts, with strong performances at the top of the lineup helping the team pull away. A key three-set battle showcased resilience, as the Buccaneers rallied after dropping the first set to secure the clinching point.
Western Carolina fought to stay within reach, picking up at least one singles victory, but ETSU’s depth proved to be the difference. With disciplined shot selection and steady serves, the Bucs closed out the match and protected their home court. The win strengthens ETSU’s standing in Southern Conference play and continues a stretch of consistent performances as the team prepares for upcoming league opponents. With conference momentum building, the Buccaneers appear poised to make a strong push deeper into the SoCon schedule.
The Bucs next face UNC Greensboro on Saturday, Feb. 28. For more information visit etsubucs.com/sports and click on the women’s tennis tab.
