TVNZ is set to pilot a local version of Tipping Point, but it isn’t yet clear if it will be a celebrity version, weekly or daily proposition with everyday Kiwis.

A local version is set to start production in Auckland in April.

TVNZ this week confirmed it was investing in an entirely new studio set at its Victoria St studios.

A TVNZ spokeswoman told the NZ Herald, “Tipping Point is a hugely popular format around the world, and after the incredible success of The Chase New Zealand with our audiences, it makes sense for us to try our hand at this one next.

“Tipping Point New Zealand will film in our TVNZ studios. We’re undertaking an ambitious set build and will utilise our AR [augmented reality] graphics capabilities too.”

While a pilot season under producer John McDonald will screen in primetime it isn’t clear if the show could regularly go head to head with The Chase which screens at 5pm.
