DAVIS, Calif. — The CSUN women’s tennis team (4-4, 0-2 Big West) fell to the UC Davis Aggies (8-8, 2-2 Big West), 4-3 in a nailbiting decision at the Marya Welch Tennis Center on Saturday morning. CSUN claimed the doubles point and Emma Moratala Sanz and Madison Shepperson each won their singles point.

HOW IT HAPPENED
CSUN kicked off the dual by taking the doubles point. On No. 3 courts, the tandem of Madison Shepperson and Satsuki Ishikawa cruised to a 6-1 win over Aileena Hu and Kaia Wolfe, and the No. 1 pair of Angela Ho and Nicole West followed with a 6-3 victory against Polina Marakhtanova and Mika Ikemori to clinch the early 1-0 advantage.

UC Davis would tie the match when the first singles match came to a close. Hu posted a 6-3, 6-1 win over Sofia Dermenjyan, at Court No. 5 to even the score at one apiece.

CSUN quickly took the lead back at Court No. 6. Shepperson won in straight-sets, topping Isabella Bringas, 6-4, 6-3.

The Aggies would tie the match yet again on Court No. 4. Vivian Gallaway defeated Tallia Harper, 7-5, 6-2Â to even the dual at 2-2.Â

UC Davis took the lead at No.1 singles between Ho and Marakhtanova. Ho won the first set, but Marakhtanova rallied to win in three sets, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.Â

The Aggies then clinched the dual at Court No.2. Ikemori outlasted West in the tightest match of the day, 6-3, 6-7 (4), 7-5.

CSUN did pick up another point in the final match as Moratalla Sanz bounced back from a first-set loss to defeat Maya Youssef, 4-6, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (5).

NOTES OF THE GAME
Moratalla Sanz is the first Matador to reach six singles victories on the season, improving to 6-1.
Shepperson is now 4-2 in singles play.
Ho and West are now 4-1 on the season and have won three in a row in doubles play together.
Despite the loss, CSUN still leads the all-time series with UC Davis 18-13.
