Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom are rumored to become allies in Avengers: Doomsday, and Marvel Cinematic Universe art teases how the start of that relationship could happen. Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom is the main attraction of Avengers: Doomsday’s cast. However, several other high-profile names have also been confirmed to play a role in the MCU’s next Avengers movie.
Interestingly, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange was not one of the stars revealed to be in the film during the Avengers: Doomsday’s cast announcement. That said, given how the MCU’s Doctor Doom is confirmed to be a magic user, a hero like Strange would make sense for the upcoming Marvel movie. However, instead of fighting Doom, his role could be as one of the villain’s allies.
On Instagram, @welove__marvel and @70.6ix combined forces to imagine what Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom’s meeting in Avengers: Doomsday could look like.
The Avengers fan art shows Strange kneeling in front of Doctor Doom, who uses his magic powers, seemingly connected to the Darkhold, to chain down the hero. By the villain’s side is Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, who has been confirmed for the MCU movie, as the evil Captain Hydra. Doctor Doom could either be imprisoning Strange or hearing him out before an alliance is formed.
Why Doctor Strange And Doctor Doom Could Be Allies In Avengers: Doomsday

Julian McMahon’s Doctor Doom looks at his mask in 2005’s Fantastic Four
Doctor Doom and Strange working together in Avengers: Doomsday would make more sense than most might think. After all, Cumberbatch’s MCU character is aware that other versions of Doctor Strange have caused problems for the multiverse, and he was also the reason behind the incursion that Strange went to stop with Charlize Theron’s Clea at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
As such, if Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom does not present himself as a villain at first, saying he wants to save the multiverse, then Doctor Strange might be inclined to join forces with him in Avengers: Doomsday. Additionally, in Marvel Comics’ 2015 Secret Wars event, Doctor Strange served as God Emperor Doom’s right-hand man, the Sheriff of Agamotto, which the MCU could repeat.
Will Doctor Strange Really Appear In Avengers: Doomsday?
While it would make sense for Doctor Strange to form an alliance with Doctor Doom, it remains to be seen whether Benedict Cumberbatch will even be in Avengers: Doomsday. Sure, the actor has claimed that he will appear, but Cumberbatch also said in the past that Doctor Strange would not be in the 2026 MCU movie, instead having a central role in 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars.
The actor’s back-and-forth about his possible role in the Marvel movie is heightened by the fact that Cumberbatch was not one of the stars announced in either the Avengers: Doomsday cast reveal event or the four Doomsday teasers that played in theaters. I believe the reason might be due to Doctor Strange playing a secret role in the film, perhaps connected to Doctor Doom, with a surprise reveal in Avengers: Doomsday.
