Frank McAvennie claims he’s ‘heard a rumour’ that Rangers and Celtic players clashed in the tunnels after Sunday’s draw – and talked up Julian Araujo for his role in the chaos.

Celtic came from behind to take a point at Ibrox with Reo Hatate’s equaliser – following up on the rebound after his penalty was saved – sparking bedlam in the away end.

Emotions were high after the game and Araujo was seen having words with Mikey Moore, who was seen pushing the Mexican and had to be held back by players on both teams.

Hoops boss Martin O’Neill raced onto the pitch to help calm things down and referee John Beaton was able to quickly get a handle on things.

The Sky Sports cameras then cut away from the on-field bedlam for post-match analysis, but according to McAvennie, things might have spilled over into the Ibrox tunnels.

Speaking on his Let Me Be Frank podcast, the former Hoops striker was quizzed on Araujo’s antics and claimed he’d “heard a rumour” on something that happened after the game.

He was then asked by host Simon Houston if there “might have been a scuffle in the tunnel.”

And that’s when McAvennie said: “There might have been one or two bangs, allegedly. The wee Mexican, with a Scottish accent and blond hair. Well done, that’s brilliant. That’s my boy.”

The rivalry is set to be renewed just seven days on at the same venue with the teams set to meet again in the Scottish Cup this weekend.
