Fundora at the height of his powers

WBC World Super Welterweight Champion Sebastian “The Towering Inferno” Fundora has his sights set firmly on re-establishing himself as the best in the 154-pound division when he faces former unified champion Keith “One Time” Thurman. The bout headlines a PBC Pay-Per-View event available via Prime Video on Saturday, March 28, from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Three top Fundora and Thurman were originally scheduled to fight last October, but Fundora suffered a hand injury. Now, the Californian fighter is fully recovered and ready to return to the ring.

“Training camp has gone well since I recovered from the hand injury,” said Fundora (23-1-1, 15 KOs). “We never stopped training; we just slowed down on some of the things we do. We always find a way to work because this is a sport that demands everything from you year-round. It’s not seasonal. I don’t think of this as a training camp; it’s my job. It’s a lifestyle.

“Having more time to focus on a single opponent is always a blessing. I wish it hadn’t been because of an injury, but we will take advantage of the extra time we had. It was disappointing to have to postpone the fight, but these things happen in boxing and in life. You have to know how to roll with the punches. Not being able to use my hands as much as I wanted was a challenge. For a while, we couldn’t train normally, so I had to find a way to make sense of the situation.”

Fundora returns to the ring following a pair of victories over Australian superstar Tim Tszyu, interspersed with a March 2025 stoppage of top contender Chordale Booker. Last July, Fundora delivered perhaps the best performance of his career, stopping Tszyu in their rematch with a violent and dominant display. He now hopes to pick up right where he left off that triumphant night last summer.

“Defeating this former world champion will send a strong message,” Fundora declared. “I still feel I am at the top of the division. I don’t think we’ve lost momentum; we just had to reschedule. We aren’t hiding from anyone. This will remind everyone that we are still at the top.”
