Naming sponsor Qatar Airways has canned its hospitality plans for the Formula 1 in Melbourne this weekend, and uninvited guests to the track as the Middle Eastern carrier’s flights remain grounded because of the Iran conflict.
The airline, which partners with and is a 25 per cent investor in Virgin Australia, told guests that an event scheduled for Marmelo restaurant on Russell Street in Melbourne’s CBD on Friday night had been cancelled, before it decided to scrap all hospitality and retract invitations to watch the race.
