Aussie women’s Test debutant Lucy Hamilton had a moment she’ll remember forever, dismissing Indian star Smriti Mandhana for her maiden wicket.

In her third over, the Queenslander went straight through the gate of the opener with a beauty after becoming the 186th woman to play Test cricket for Australia.

Mandhana departed for 4 and left India at 1-18 early.

“What a first wicket to get in her Test match career. Lucy Hamilton through the gate of one of the world’s best,” Mel Jones said on Fox Cricket.

“… She probably dreamt last night and visualised her first Test wicket … That (wicket) there we are going to see time and time again over the coming years.”

Hannah Darlington added: “That’s the exact sound you want to hear as a debutant with the new ball in hand.”

Shafali Verma (35) and Pratika Rawal then combined for 36 runs before the former was caught behind by Beth Mooney off Annabel Sutherland’s bowling.

At third slip Hamilton was involved again, taking a sharp catch to dismiss Rawal (18) and help Sutherland take her second.

Superstar all-rounder Harmanpreet Kaur was next to go, bowled by Darcie Brown for 19.

India ended up all-out for 198 with Jemimah Rodrigues the top-scorer on 52. Hamilton dismissed her too and finished with 3-31 on debut. Sutherland took 4-46.
