Forty-seven of the top 50 players in the Official World Golf Ranking are in the field as the PGA Tour holds the 52nd edition of the Players Championship, tournament officials revealing the field on Friday afternoon. Leading the charge is defending champion Rory McIlroy, who picked up his second Players title a year ago with a Monday playoff win over J.J. Spaun at TPC Sawgrass to go with his 2019 victory. He, along with World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (winner in 2023 and 2024), are both trying to become the first golfers to win the Players title three times at TPC Sawgrass, and join Jack Nicklaus as the only three-time winner of the event.

All told, seven past Players champions are competing: McIlroy, Scheffler, Adam Scott, Rickie Fowler, Jason Day, Si Woo Kim and Justin Thomas. Scott will be playing in the event for the 25th time, the most of anyone competing.

The field right now has 121 players in it, with Brooks Koepka including for the first time since 2022. The former LIV Golf was granted access to the event as part of the terms of return to PGA Tour competition. His addition allows for two more players to compete. The two spots are being held open for the winners of this weekend’s Arnold Palmer Invitational and Puerto Rico Open. If the winners are already in the Players field, two players will come off the alternate list to fill out the 123 spots. The last two names will be formally announced at 12 noon on Monday.

Below is the current 121 player field. Tee times for the first and second rounds at TPC Sawgrass have not yet been released and are expected to go live on Tuesday. We’ll update this post with the officials tee times when they become available.

TPC’s stadium concept was the idea of then-PGA Tour commissioner Deane Beman. The 1980 design was pure Pete Dye, who set out to test the world’s best golfers by mixing the demands of distance with target golf. Most greens are ringed by random lumps, bumps and hollows, what Dye called his “grenade attack architecture.” His ultimate target hole is the heart-pounding sink-or-swim island green 17th, which offers no bailout, perhaps unfairly in windy Atlantic coast conditions. The 17th has spawned over a hundred imitation island greens in the past 40 years. To make the layout even more exciting during tournament play, Steve Wenzloff of PGA Tour Design Services later remodeled several holes, most significantly the 12th, which he turned into a drivable par-4, something Dye was never a fan of.
