AS Monaco head coach Vassilis Spanoulis will miss Saturday’s French League game against Cholet.

AS Monaco head coach Vassilis Spanoulis will not coach his team in the French League game against Cholet Basket on Saturday, according to L’Equipe.

The Greek coach stepped aside for this game just 48 hours after Monaco’s EuroLeague loss to Fenerbahce Istanbul.

Following that defeat in Round 30, Spanoulis did not speak to EuroLeague TV but did attend the post-game press conference.

Like his players, Spanoulis has faced multiple salary delays this season, per the report.

He is in the second year of a three-year contract, with the final year being an option.

Spanoulis’ Monaco is now facing a difficult stretch. The team has lost seven of its last eight EuroLeague games.

Currently, Monaco holds a 16-14 record and sits ninth in the EuroLeague standings, but the margin is narrow, with just a one-win cushion over the teams in 11th and 12th place.

Their remaining EuroLeague schedule includes games against Olympiacos (home), Anadolu Efes (away), Olimpia Milano (home), Panathinaikos (away), Dubai (away), ASVEL (home), Barcelona (home), and Hapoel (home).

The team has 10 players available for upcoming games.

The Greek tactician took over the team in 2024 November, succeeding Sasa Obradovic.

In his very first season, Spanoulis guided Monaco to the 2025 EuroLeague Final Four, eliminating FC Barcelona in a dramatic 3-2 playoff series. In the semifinals, Monaco defeated Olympiacos, but they fell to Fenerbahce in the final.

In the French League, Monaco lost the championship to Paris in a decisive fifth game.
