Ashlyn Krueger produced a fine comeback to defeat Liudmila Samsonova and reach the third-round at Indian Wells. The American looked down and out as Samsonova took the first set and served for the match at 5-3 in the second. However, Krueger won the next six games in a row to level the match and go a break up in the decider, eventually sealing a 3-6 7-5 6-2 victory after two hours and 26 minutes.
She faces Elina Svitolina next. The Ukrainian needed three sets to defeat Laura Siegemund in the second-round. She took the first set on a tiebreak, but Siegemund forced a deciding set after breaking Svitolina when she served to stay in the second. Breaks were exchanged in the third, but Svitolina would go on to win 7-6 (5) 4-6 6-3.
They faced each other in the second-round of this event last year, with Svitolina winning in three sets. She is in better form this year, with 16 wins from 19 matches, which includes a title in Auckland, and she should be able to get the job done in straight sets here.
