Patrick Dempsey’s crime drama Memory of a Killer has jumped up the UK streaming chart after landing on Prime Video last month. The thriller sees the Grey’s Anatomy star portray Angelo Doyle, a man leading a dangerous double life with deadly consequences.
By day Angelo is a “mild-mannered” Upstate photocopier salesman, but by night he’s a “fearsome” New York hitman. As he begins to experience memory problems, Angelo, whose brother has Alzheimer’s, must fight to protect his family as he gains a conscience.
The series’ synopsis adds: “To further complicate things, Angelo discovers that his wife’s recent death may not have been an accident. When someone comes after his pregnant daughter Maria it’s clear the wall between his lives has been breached.

“Angelo must stop whoever’s coming for his family by searching his past hits for clues, and the list is very long. Memory of a Killer is a redemptive story about a man who is losing his memory but gaining a conscience.”
After being released worldwide across January and February, the crime drama has proven to be a hit with viewers, with the series currently at #7 in Prime Video’s TV chart for the UK (via FlixPatrol).
Alongside Dempsey, Memory of a Killer also stars The Sopranos and The White Lotus‘ Michael Imperoli as Dutch, Angelo’s close friend who seems affable but uses his restaurant as a front for his criminal operation.
The series is based on the 1985 novel The Alzheimer Case by Jef Geeraerts, which was first adapted as a Belgian film of the same name in 2003. An English-language remake titled Memory, which starred Liam Neeson, was released in 2022.
Memory of a Killer has so far received mostly positive reviews from critics, with USA Today writing that the performances of Dempsey and Imperioli “suggest this is worth sticking with beyond the two-night premiere”.
Decider echoed this sentiment, writing in their review: “We still think that Memory of a Killer has the potential to go in directions other thrillers haven’t, simply because of the cognitive decline Dempsey’s character will be suffering through.”

Dempsey recently shared that he had wanted his Grey’s Anatomy co-star Eric Dane to play his brother in the series prior to his death, with the latter passing away last month at the age of 53 after being diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) the previous April.
Speaking after his friend’s passing, Dempsey told Metro: “We were expecting it. I just didn’t realise it was going to happen so quickly. His agent had reached out, and we were trying to make it work. But it’s just so shocking how rapidly the disease progressed.”
Memory of a Killer is available to stream now on Prime Video.
