NBA legend Wilt Chamberlain has countless unbeatable records, but Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is closing in on breaking one of them.
The Oklahoma City Thunder star notched his 126th consecutive game with 20-plus points, tying Chamberlain’s record.
Chamberlain was one of the most prolific scorers of all time, averaging 30.1 points per game across 14 seasons and even posting 50.1 points per game in his third year in the league.
Chamberlain holds countless NBA records, like his 100 points in a single game. Any time a player is mentioned in the same breath as Chamberlain, it’s a big deal.
Like Chamberlain, Gilgeous-Alexander has established himself as one of the best scorers in recent memory over the last few years, putting up 30-plus points per game in each of the last four seasons. The reigning MVP is putting up 31.6 points, 6.4 assists and 4.4 boards per game, leading the Thunder to a 50-15 record, the best mark in the West.
Gilgeous-Alexander is well on his way to another MVP award if he keeps up his pace, though he’ll have to avoid missing many more games so he can meet the 65-game threshold to stay eligible for postseason awards.
OKC will face the Thunder on Thursday, where Gilgeous-Alexander will look to break Chamberlain’s record that once seemed untouchable.
