Celeste Barber has broken her silence on her split from her husband of more than 20 years, thanking fans for their “lovely messages” amid the challenging period.

The Australian comedian, 43, shared a video to her Instagram Stories promoting a mascara by makeup brand Booie, declaring at the top that “we’re going to talk about mascara and that’s all we’re going to talk about. How great this mascara is”.

However, at the end of the clip, she quickly lowered her voice and added: “Thank you for all your lovely messages. I really appreciate it, thank you.”

'Thank you' Celeste Barber breaks her silence following the breakdown of her marriage

It comes after her 52-year-old former partner took to social media last month to announce the news with a “heavy heart”.

“The past few months have been incredibly challenging and deeply heartbreaking for us both,” Robin started.

“After much reflection, the decision has been made to separate.

“There is still love and respect between us, but sadly we are at capacity and have come to recognise we may want for different things.

“Our priority remains our children and their wellbeing.”

A 21-year-old Barber was working as a bartender at a pub in Sydney’s Balmain back in 2006 when she met father-of-two Robin, who was 30 at the time.

They married in Bali in 2013 and now share two sons, Lou and Buddy.

Barber gushed about Robin in The Australian Women’s Weekly back in 2020, saying she was “obsessed” with him.

“He’s the most fantastic human being in the whole land. I’m just obsessed with him,” Barber said.

“He takes it all in his stride and he’s really supportive and excited by how well I’m doing, because he knows what I do really makes up who I am.”

Barber had previously shared glimpses of their life together online, in which she often referred to him as the “hot husband” and “Māori Adonis”.

She also opened up about navigating her fame with Robin by her side during an interview with Mamamia’s No Filter podcast last year.

“I could do this on my own, but I have no interest in doing it on my own,” Barber explained.

“I don’t want to have the biggest house on the tallest hill and live on it alone. I want it to be with him.”

She added that the pair had a “desperate love for each other.”

“I love him on a cellular level … It terrifies me and it infuriates me.”
