Today presenter Sarah Abo has announced her pregnancy during a broadcast of the breakfast program, prompting tears of joy from her co-hosts.
On Wednesday morning, an emotional Abo revealed that after years of fertility struggles, she is expecting her first child – a boy – with her husband, Cyrus Moran.
“It hasn’t been the easiest journey to get here, which a lot of people I know have gone through and will go through,” she said just after 8.15am.
“I know that a lot of our viewers will be going through this too, and it’s not as easy as a lot of people think that it will be. It has been a bit of a bumpy ride but here we are … we’re almost half way now and things are going well, it’s good.”
Nine, which broadcasts Today, is the owner of this masthead.

Abo told viewers that she had previously suffered two miscarriages, including one last year.
“I think that’s also why I’ve been so cautious about sharing this news, which obviously I’m so thrilled to be sharing with you all, but I’m still terrified,” she said.
“I’m still finding it hard to believe that it’s happening and I will lean in and enjoy it – but a lot of people understand what it’s like to have this cautious optimism.”
Abo said she hoped her announcement would help other women who have struggled with fertility issues.
“It hasn’t been an easy journey to get here, but it’s getting harder to hide.”
While congratulating his co-host, Karl Stefanovic also became emotional, revealing that his wife, Jasmine, had also suffered pregnancy losses.
“It wasn’t until we were confident with our most recent test that we felt we could tell our parents [about my pregnancy].”

“A lot of people won’t know this because Jas is a very private person, but we lost a couple as well, and you sit there as a man and think, ‘What could I have done? What did I do wrong?’ All those questions enter your mind,” he said.
Stefanovic acknowledged that Abo had been “super nervous” about the announcement, while praising her bravery and fortitude.
“I work next to you every day,” he told her. “I know you had some dramas and last year you had so much crap written about you in the newspapers … it was around that time, and you didn’t tell anyone and still came to work. And your strength and courage going through that was unbelievable; that you fought through that on your own with only a couple of other people knowing.”
In a post to Instagram on Wednesday morning, Abo shared a photo of her baby bump and provided more detail about her struggle to conceive.
“Well, I can’t keep trying to hide under a rock! Yes, there is a baby in there. It’s our happy news after a bit of a bumpy ride. But I am still pretty terrified!
“I know this is an experience many have gone through, are going through, and will go through. And one that no one ever wants to go through. We take so much for granted, and I think when it comes to pregnancy and fertility, we’re almost conditioned to.
“Instead, for some of us, it’s about dodging glances, dodging questions, submitting to appointment after appointment, test after test, jab after jab. I wish there was a bit more awareness, education and less stigma, to maybe make it a little bit easier … hopefully talking about it more helps.”

Abo also admitted she had waited as long as possible to tell her family and friends.
“It wasn’t until we were confident with our most recent test that we felt we could tell our parents, but it was so beautiful to share the news,” she said.

“When you’re a 40-year-old woman and pregnant for the first time this far along, it doesn’t happen overnight … But Cyrus is so, so happy – and he is going to be the most beautiful father – and we already love this child so much; he is coming into a world that adores him.”
The development is likely to fuel speculation about potential changes to Today’s hosting line-up, given Stefanovic – whose rumoured $2 million contract expires at the end of this year – has started an independent podcast, The Karl Stefanovic Show. There has also been speculation that he may be considering a move from television to radio.
When rumours surfaced that Nine was considering pairing Stefanovic with friend and former breakfast TV rival Samantha Armytage, who previously co-hosted Seven’s Sunrise – and who is now contracted to Nine, where she has filled in on Today and presented The Golden Bachelor – Nine moved to shut down speculation in February.
In a statement to industry publication Mediaweek in February, a Nine spokesperson said the broadcaster remained firmly behind its breakfast pairing.
“We’re incredibly proud of our Today team and the work they’ve been doing in an already busy 2026 and delighted that, as announced at the Nine Upfronts [2026 programming showcase] back in October, Sarah and Karl continue to lead the incredible Today team in what will be a big year full of headlines and events that affect the lives of our viewers.”
