Today host Sarah Abo has revealed she is expecting her first child with her husband of 13 years, Cyrus Moran.

The 39-year-old Channel Nine presenter shared the surprise news live on air during Wednesday morning’s broadcast, telling viewers she is now approaching the halfway mark in her pregnancy.

“Cyrus and I are expecting a little baby,” Abo announced, grinning ear-to-ear.

While clearly overjoyed, the television star said the road to motherhood had been far from straightforward.

“I know, it’s obviously very happy news and everything, but it hasn’t been the easiest journey to get here, which a lot of people I know have gone through and will go through.”

She added that many families face similar struggles when trying to conceive.

“And I know that lot of our beautiful viewers out there will be feeling this right now as well, because it’s not as easy as you suppose sometimes think that pregnancy will be- so it has been a bit of a bumpy ride, but here we are.

“And yes, we’re almost halfway now, so things are going well.”

Abo also revealed the couple are expecting a baby boy, sharing how excited she and her steel trader husband already are to welcome him.

“He (Cyrus) is so, so happy. He is over the moon. and he is going to be the most beautiful father.

“And I know that we love this child so much already. He (the baby) is coming into a world that adores him and will be there every step of the way.

“So yeah, it’s quite the journey.  And for those who are going through this as well- you’re not alone. It might feel like you are, but you’re absolutely not alone.”

Moments after the announcement, Abo was surrounded by delighted colleagues on the Today set.

Newsreader Jayne Azzopardi, sports presenter Danika Mason and entertainment reporter Richard ‘Dickie’ Wilkins rushed over to congratulate her.

Azzopardi praised Abo’s strength, noting the resilience it must have taken to continue hosting the program while privately navigating fertility struggles.

“I’ve been in a similar position- but this woman, let me tell you, to be going through that and to be showing up here before 4 a.m. every morning with a smile on your face and presenting this show under spotlights, and doing the brilliant, classy job that you always do- it must have taken an incredible emotional strength and reslience.

“I’m just so thrilled for you and Cyrus, and you’re going to be the best parents.”

Despite the excitement surrounding the announcement, Abo admitted she is still processing the reality of the pregnancy.

“But it’s just one of those things that every day, I mean, I’m terrified. I think I’m still finding it hard to believe that it’s happening.”

Co-host Karl Stefanovic appeared emotional as he congratulated his colleague on air, telling Abo he and the entire Today team were thrilled for her.

“I just wanted to say that you fought that on your own and with only a couple of people knowing,” he said.

“We love you. And as Jayne alluded, through adversity comes a miracle. And you deserve it. And we can’t wait to meet little Karlos Dickie.”

The pair later shared a light-hearted moment as they joked about potential baby names.

“Definitely won’t be Karlos,” Abo laughed.

Abo joined the Today show in January 2023, replacing Alison Langdon after she moved across to host A Current Affair.
