Bam Adebayo has etched his name into basketball history.
The Miami Heat centre stunned the hoops world by scoring the second-most points by an individual in an NBA game, pouring in 83 against the Washington Wizards.
His tally eclipses the famous 81 recorded by Kobe Bryant in 2006 against the Raptors and is now the next best behind Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point game.
Adebayo, who averages just 18.9 points per game this season, had 31 points in the opening period, 43 by the half and was eventually subbed out of the game late in the fourth quarter having broken Bryant’s record.
Miami won the game 150-129, with Adebayo’s stat line reading: 42 minutes played, 83 points, 20-43 FG, 7-22 3PT, 36-43 FT, 9 rebounds, 3 assists.
In the final minutes Washington was triple-teaming the Olympic gold medallist, but it was too little too late, with the damage well and truly done.
