A team of travel agents has raised nearly £700 for a cause close to their hearts.
Hays Travel staff in Topsham took on a cycling challenge in support of Prostate Cancer UK, covering the distance from their Fore Street branch to the company’s Sunderland head office using an in-store exercise bike.
Claire Raddon, branch manager at Hays Travel Topsham, said: “We had to each do about 15 miles a day, but some days it was more to cover staff days off.
“We hit our target by Friday afternoon, so we just carried on throughout Saturday and hit 400 miles.”
The five-member team aimed to complete 362 miles during the week of February 23, cycling more than 70 miles each day.
They exceeded their goal and decided to keep going.
Ms Raddon said Prostate Cancer UK was chosen because “a number of our relatives sadly have had the disease, so it means a lot to us.
“We had such a good response from the community – they all loved it.”
The fundraiser brought in a total of £689 for the charity.
Hays Travel is the UK’s largest independent travel agent, with branches across the country.
Each branch receives a £500 budget to support fundraising and charity work.
Of this, £200 is allocated to causes supporting young people’s mental health, while the remaining £300 can support charities chosen by the branch.
Through the company’s Local Community Partnership initiative, almost £170,000 has been donated to local charities in the past year.
