Roosters centre Rob Toia is on track to make his return from a foot injury that saw him forced out of last week’s loss to the Warriors.
The Tongan international has been named in the centres and is set to take his place for Friday night’s showdown with fierce rivals South Sydney at Allianz Stadium.

Broncos: Coach Michael Maguire confirmed on Wednesday that Ezra Mam would start the game with Ben Hunt coming off the bench. Brendan Piakura remains sidelined following off-season knee surgery but is expected to return in the next couple of weeks. Delouise Hoeter and Thomas Duffy were omitted from the extended squad on Wednesday.
Eels: Will Penisini has dropped out of the side 24 hours before kick-off, replaced in the centre by Jordan Samrani. Kangaroos winger Josh Addo-Carr is on track to complete an early return from a broken thumb. Young playmaker Jonah Pezet will line up at five-eighth for the clash with his future club. A suspension for J’maine Hopgood has seen Jack Williams shift to the front row, with Kelma Tuilagi the new face in the starting side. Parramatta have an impressive recent record at Suncorp Stadium, winning four of their past five games against Brisbane at the venue.

Warriors: Marata Niukore is pushing to make his return from a calf injury and has been named in the extended squad. Niukore’s inclusion would be the only change to the 19 that defeated the Roosters at Go Media Stadium last Friday night, providing coach Andrew Webster with plenty of stability to start the year.
Raiders: Morgan Smithies will start at prop after veteran Josh Papalii was placed into the HIA protocol. Emerging back-rower Noah Martin retains his place in the starting side following an exceptional performance against Manly last week. Matt Timoko is in the mix for his first NRL appearance of the year, having made a successful return from a foot injury via NSW Cup last week. The outside back is currently listed on the six-man bench.

Roosters: The Roosters are hoping to avoid the late drama that disrupted their preparation last week after losing Rob Toia (foot) and Spencer Leniu (hamstring) in the 24 hours prior to kick off. Toia is on track to take his place this weekend, however Leniu will be sidelined for a month. Salesi Foketi replaced the prop a week ago and is set to retain his place in the 19. Angus Crichton will play his 200th NRL game, having started his career at the Rabbitohs before joining the Roosters in 2019.
Rabbitohs: Alex Johnston will line up on the wing and needs just two tries to surpass Ken Irvine as the premiership’s all-time leading tryscorer. Jayden Sullivan is set to start at halfback after making a successful return from a broken leg and infection via the interchange last week. Sullivan replaces Ashton Ward, who succumbs to a syndesmosis injury. Off-season recruit Adam Elliott remains sidelined with a calf injury and will have to wait another week to make his club debut.

Wests Tigers: Kai Pearce-Paul is on track for his club debut after overcoming a calf injury that kept him out of the Witzer Pre-Season Challenge. An injury to Starford To’a has seen boom rookie Heamasi Makasini shift to the centres and Luke Laulilii come on to the wing. Mavrik Geyer is also a chance of his first game as a Tiger, while Royce Hunt has earned a recall to the first-grade side after an impressive pre-season overhaul.
Cowboys: Emerging prop Kaiden Lahrs is in the mix for his first game of the season after coming on to the extended squad following a knee injury to Tom Mikaele suffered in Las Vegas. Winger Braidon Burns takes his place after a successful trip to the judiciary on Tuesday night.

Dragons: Jacob Liddle’s return from a hamstring injury has been put on ice for another week, with Damien Cook to wear the No.9 jumper. Hamish Stewart has been named to start at lock but could be in for a gameday switch with bench forward Hame Sele as was the case in Las Vegas. The Dragons have an impressive recent winning record over the Storm, winning the past three games between the sides.
Storm: Harry Grant (cramp) and Cooper Clarke (rib) have been named and are on track to take the field after overcoming injuries suffered in last week’s win over Parramatta. Shawn Blore is also pushing to make his first appearance of the season and has been named in the reserves as he looks to return from an ankle injury. Veteran Tui Kamikamica starts at lock in place of Alec MacDonald (concussion), while Jack Hetherington is in the mix for a club debut off the six-man bench.

Panthers: Liam Martin’s return from a calf injury has been delayed by at least another week, with Luke Garner and Isaiah Papali’i to start in the second row for the second game in a row. Winger Tom Jenkins has also retained his place in the starting side following a late call-up in Round 1. Penrith have struggled in Bathurst over the years, winning just three of their last seven games in the western NSW town.
Sharks: Cronulla have the luxury of a settled squad with coach Craig Fitzgibbon set to roll out the same 19 that got the job done last week. Teig Wilton remains sidelined as he navigates the final stages of recovery from off-season shoulder surgery. The match is a homecoming for Bathurst junior Will Kennedy, who will start at fullback.

Sea Eagles: Former Bronco Kobe Hetherington is set to come into the starting side in place of Siosiua Taukeiaho (calf). Hetherington had a disrupted pre-season but made his club debut off the bench in the Round 1 loss to Canberra. Centre Tolu Koula is looking to keep a remarkable try-scoring streak alive, having crossed the chalk in 10 consecutive games at 4 Pines Park.
Knights: Sandon Smith will wear the No.6 jersey after Fletcher Sharpe suffered a knee injury in Las Vegas. Tyson Frizell has been named to start at lock but could be set for another late switch with interchange forward Mat Croker. No other changes to a settled squad looking to make it two on the trot to start the year. History is against the Knights, however, with Newcastle winning just four of 23 games at 4 Pines Park.

Dolphins: Max Plath is set to complete his comeback from an ACL tear via the interchange after making a successful return to the field in Queensland Cup last week. Brad Schneider again starts at hooker while Ray Stone is in the mix for his first game of the season and has been listed on the bench. The Dolphins have won five of their six games against Gold Coast and they’re looking to keep that going on Sunday night.
Titans: Sam Verrills is on track to take his place in the team despite suffering a sternum injury in last Saturday’s loss to the Sharks. Josh Hannay is set to roll out the same 19 for the second week in a row, with emerging talent Cooper Bai to come off the bench in jumper No.17.
