Edmonton Oilers goaltender Connor Ingram exited Tuesday night’s game against the Colorado Avalanche late in the second period after a collision in the crease with forward Nathan MacKinnon.

Ingram remained down on the ice and was attended to by the team’s training staff before heading straight to the dressing room, he did not return to the game.

The 28-year-old surrendered two goals on 17 shots before he was forced out of the contest.

MacKinnon was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct for goaltender interference on the play, which stood after an official review.

Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar was not pleased with the referees’ decision.

“There is no chance that he hits the goalie if Nurse doesn’t run into him, he’s not hitting the goalie,” Bednar told the media after the game. “I don’t care if he’s injured, not injured, it’s a severe crash, not a severe crash, it’s not a penalty. If you put guys into your own goalie, it’s not a penalty. That’s the way I see it.”

MacKinnon, who leads the league with 43 goals, did not register a point in 14:17 of ice time before he was ejected from the game.

Bednar was also unhappy with the explanation he was given surrounding the five minute major to his superstar forward.

“Not a good one,” Bednar said. “The goalie’s hurt, so it’s five? Again, I really don’t give a crap if the goalie’s hurt, that’s on their D-man, not on our guy.”

Tristan Jarry replaced Ingram and made 11 saves on 12 shots as the Oilers earned a 4-3 victory.
