Panasonic has released new firmware updates for several LUMIX full-frame cameras, namely the S1RII, S1II, S1IIE, S5II, S5IIX, and S9. The updates, released on March 10, add support for Panasonic’s new DMW-DMS1 digital shotgun microphone and introduce improvements to the company’s mobile workflow apps, LUMIX Flow and LUMIX Lab. Let’s take a closer look at what’s new.
Panasonic has been steadily adding features to its LUMIX full-frame lineup through firmware updates. A large set of improvements arrived last June for the LUMIX S1RII, S1II, and S1IIE, bringing major updates to recording formats, autofocus, workflow tools, and more. If you’d like a closer look at those changes, we covered them in detail in our earlier article.

One of the key additions in this firmware release is support for Panasonic’s new DMW-DMS1 digital shotgun microphone. The microphone connects through the camera’s hot shoe and records audio digitally, allowing the signal to bypass the camera’s analog circuitry. Digital microphones like this can reduce interference and simplify on-camera audio setups, particularly for run-and-gun filmmaking or documentary work.
Support for the DMW-DMS1 is included in the following firmware updates:

Panasonic has also updated its LUMIX Flow mobile app to version 1.5.0. The update introduces a new Director Monitor mode, which lets users review clips and manage certain production tasks directly from a connected mobile device.
Within the app, users can now review recorded clips, change clip ratings, and adjust frame markers remotely. This feature is designed to make it easier for directors or assistants to monitor footage and organize takes while shooting.

The LUMIX Lab app has also received an update to version 2.0.4. Panasonic says the new version adds bulk LUT management, making it easier to organize multiple LUTs within the mobile workflow.
The update also improves the app’s cropping tools, so users can prepare and adjust images more quickly when working on a smartphone or tablet.
