America’s data centre boom is being powered by fossil fuels. I don’t just mean new demand on the power grid pulling up coal and gas power. I mean they are literally plugging directly into brand new, shiny power plants that burn through petajoules of methane. Pumping out air pollution to choke the community and pumping out greenhouse gases to materially overheat Earth’s life support systems, and all to power the rise of generative digital bloat that not a single soul on Earth asked for.
