The NFL’s 2026 league year began as teams announce their official transactions from the legal tampering period. Those moves include not only free-agent signings but also agreed-upon trades.
The most notable development of the past week came when the Baltimore Ravens backed out of an agreement with the Las Vegas Raiders to acquire Maxx Crosby. The decision sparked a wave of takes, criticism, and debate across the sports world.

One NFL player believes the Ravens’ borderline shady maneuver involving Crosby should not go unchallenged. In fact, he thinks the NFL must step in.

Breiden Fehoko, a former Los Angeles Chargers defensive lineman, went as far as to say the Ravens should face punishment. His argument centers on the Raiders’ free-agency decisions, which they made with the expectation that Crosby would be traded.
Those decisions carried risk for both the Raiders, the free agents, and Crosby, largely due to salary-cap implications. Fortunately for all of those parties, the Raiders since confirmed they will honor the agreements they reached during the legal tampering period.

So, is Fehoko right? Should Baltimore face punishment? While the Ravens did not technically break any rules, several NFL general managers have reportedly expressed concern to league insiders.

Critics believe the Ravens attempted to address their pass rush without paying the steep trade compensation required for Crosby. Instead, they pivoted to signing Trey Hendrickson.
By signing Hendrickson rather than trading for Crosby, the Ravens avoid giving up first-round picks. They also gain pass-rush help at a lower contract value.
Despite the speculation, Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta insists the team intended to acquire both players. Few around the league appear to believe that explanation.

The situation remains unprecedented. The Ravens claimed they backed out of the deal after Crosby failed a physical, but reports indicate his recovery from knee surgery had been well documented.
