15′ Storm’s complaints pay off
Melbourne captain Harry Grant spoke to Gerard Sutton about Dragons defenders lifting the legs of Storm players in the opening minutes, and now Emre Guler does it again and is immediately penalised.
It’s a legitimate penalty, but I’m not sure it would’ve been blown had Grant not complained earlier.
2m agoSat 14 Mar 2026 at 6:46amWhat a pass by Sua Fa’alogo and the Storm are in!
The right-side shift was placed under enormous pressure by Christian Tuipulotu, but the Storm fullback nails his catch and pass to cut out Jack Howarth and hit Will Warbrick, who dives over.
There’s a bit of a dust-up in the background as Storm enforcer Joe Chan takes exception to Tuipulotu’s hit on Fa’alogo, but it was fair play, coming barely a millisecond after the ball left his hands.

11′ Huge slice of luck for the Storm
Sua Fa’alogo’s rushed grubber has way too much on it, but somehow it sits up and the last second and bounces into Clint Gutherson as he shepherds it over the dead-ball line.

9′ That’s not a disruptor
Looks to me like Will Warbrick leapt for Jahrome Hughes’s kick and only ever wanted to bat it back with one hand, but for some reason it’s not called a disruptor this time.
That silly rule is only made sillier by being applied inconsistently.

8′ Dragons threaten but kick it dead
The Dragons get a real roll on on the back of another set restart, but Daniel Atkinson’s chip kick in behind for Valentine Holmes is a too strong and bounces dead.
The Storm take a seven-tackle set and get a set restart too.

5′ Melbourne opens the scoring with a penalty goal
Clint Gutherson’s dropped ball puts the Storm on the attack.
The ball comes out of Ativalu Lisati’s grasp, and referee Gerard Sutton blows a penalty for a strip by Dan Atkinson.
The Storm waste no time pointing to the sticks, and Nick Meaney pots the two points.

1′ The Storm kick us off in Wollongong
The second game of the day is underway, with infinitely better conditions than the corresponding match last year when the Dragons stunned Melbourne in the wet.
We have our first set restart in the first set of the game. Of course.

LATE MAIL: A couple of Storm debuts coming up
(NRL.com)
After missing the opening week with his new club, newly minted Storm firebrand Jack Hetherington has been named on the bench to face the Dragons in Wollongong today.
In jersey number 20 is Angus Hinchey, who may make his NRL debut.
On the other side of the ledger, the Dragons have brought Hame Sele into the starting lock spot, with Hamish Stewart dropping back to the bench.
54m agoSat 14 Mar 2026 at 5:54amFULL-TIME: The Tigers complete a 44-16 demolition of North Queensland
(Getty)
It’s the Wests Tigers’ first round-one win since 2020 and they looked mighty slick doing it, running in tries for fun against a pretty lacklustre defensive outfit in the Cowboys.
Benji Marshall won’t be happy with his team allowing a little bit of comeback in that second half, but the firepower was on full display with the ball in hand to be sure.
For the Cowboys it’s another disappointing result to start the season after their round-one loss to the Knights.
If they can’t figure out how to find some mettle in defence, this year could get away from them very quickly.

80′ The Cowboys throw one more intercept for the road
I genuinely expected the Tigers to score in the final 10 seconds, but the ball dies with Terrell May.
58m agoSat 14 Mar 2026 at 5:50am
77′ And now they drop it on their tryline
This time it’s Braidon Burns, cleanly marking a high ball, beating a tackler and then having the ball knocked out by the second tackler.
Just basic errors killing the Cowboys this afternoon.
59m agoSat 14 Mar 2026 at 5:49am
75′ A third schoolboy error by the Cowboys
Dummy half Soni Luke has the ball slapped out of his hands by the first marker.
It’s the third time today the Cowboys’ dummy halves have had that happen to them.
1h agoSat 14 Mar 2026 at 5:47am
74′ The referee spares Scott’s blushes
Jahream Bula leaps over Scott Drinkwater and drops the ball. Api Koroisau swoops and scores, and the Tigers celebrate, but Grant Atkins calls it a knock-on. Soni Luke arrived late to knock the ball loose and save Drinkwater from another embarrassing moment.
1h agoSat 14 Mar 2026 at 5:42amNo stopping Skelton this time!
The Tigers attack from the midfield scrum, immediately spinning it right.
Sunia Turuva is held up but manages to get an offload away and Jeral Skelton is fast and strong enough to make it to the corner.
1h agoSat 14 Mar 2026 at 5:42am
70′ Another blunder by Scott Drinkwater
The chip kick comes in and Scott Drinkwater appears to have it covered, but he’s knocked it on.
Was he distracted by Murray Taulagi running past him? Either way, it’s another bad mistake from the Cowboys fullback.
1h agoSat 14 Mar 2026 at 5:39am
68′ Jeral Skelton misses out
The Tigers’ attack is still looking slick, but this time the Cowboys’ left side is able to get across and force him to put a foot on the sideline as he dives for the corner.
1h agoSat 14 Mar 2026 at 5:37am
66′ There’s one of those disruptor calls
Tom Chester jumps for a high ball and tries to bat it back with one hand, which isn’t allowed anymore for some reason.
1h agoSat 14 Mar 2026 at 5:34amINTERCEPT! Drinkwater hands the Tigers a try
The Cowboys attack right and Scott Drinkwater makes a terrible read, throwing a pass straight to Luke Laulilii, who was just standing in the line.
The 19-year-old goes 70 metres to score his second of the day.
1h agoSat 14 Mar 2026 at 5:29amThat’s why Scott Drinkwater’s there, what a pass!
The Cowboys attack down the right and the Tigers rush Scott Drinkwater, who still manages to come up with a perfect pass over the top to centre Tom Chester. He hits the ball at speed and beats Samuela Fainu to the line and the Cowboys are turning it on now.
That’s a reminder of Drinkwater’s ability after some typically woeful defence today.
