A man has been arrested after an older man was found dead and a woman critically injured inside a home at Wellington, New South Wales on Saturday.

Police said emergency services were called to the home on Gisborne Street at about 8:10am after reports of “concern for welfare”.

Police said officers arrived at the scene to find the man, believed to be in his 70s, deceased and the woman seriously injured.

The woman, also believed to be in her 70s, was treated by paramedics at the scene before she was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition, police said.

Following a search police arrested a 30-year-old man inside a fast-food restaurant on Arthur Street.

The man was taken to Wellington Police Station for further questioning. 

A crime scene has been established and detectives from Strike Force Fedonia, assisted by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, are investigating the incident.
