With just one day left until Selection Sunday and March Madness just around the corner, it’s crunch time in conference tournaments around the country.

In the SEC, it was about Florida and whether the Gators can run it back with another national title. The Gators struggled to start the season and then even fell out of the national rankings completely by early January. They looked strong entering the SEC tournament only to get routed by Vanderbilt in the semifinals. Now, it’s up to the NCAA tournament selection committee to decide whether to award them a No. 1 seed.

The Rebels came oh-so-close to winning a fourth SEC tourney game in as many days and advancing to the championship. At No. 15, they were already the lowest-seeded team to reach the SEC semifinals.

Ole Miss had lost 12 of 13 games entering the tournament. AJ Storr led the Rebels with 24 points, including a layup at the end of regulation that sent the game into OT.

The Razorbacks survived to beat Ole Miss in overtime and reach the SEC tournament championship game.

Barely.

Poor free-throw shooting by Arkansas allowed the Rebels to send the game into OT — and then almost win it.

Down two, AJ Storr pulled up for a 3-pointer and the potential game-winner but missed. Arkansas split another pair of FTs and Travis Perry’s desperation heave at the buzzer clanged off the backboard.

Maleek Thomas led Arkansas with 29 points and Darius Acuff Jr. scored 24.

After the Rebels pulled within three, Acuff hit a baseline jumper while being fouled. The next time down the floor, he pulled up for a 3-pointer above the arc.

Two possessions, six points.

This could ultimately be enough to push Arkansas past Ole Miss.

Arkansas has found a way to slow the Rebels’ run through the tourney: Dunk on them.

Ole Miss hasn’t had much of an answer for the Razorbacks’ inside. Arkansas had five dunks in the first nine minutes, including four from Trevon Brazile.

Ole Miss entered the SEC tournament having lost 12 of its previous 13 games. It was seeded 15th among the 16 teams.

Now?

The Rebels are just two wins away from automatically qualifying for the NCAA tournament and stealing someone else’s bid.

Ole Miss beat Texas, Georgia and Alabama in three straight days to reach Saturday’s semifinal against Arkansas. Now, the Rebels need a fourth victory in four days to make the final.

Vanderbilt is headed to the SEC tournament championship game after routing defending national champion Florida.

Playing in front of a home crowd, the Commodores controlled much of the game, using their speed to negate the Gators’ size advantage. Vandy’s 25-point lead in the second half was the largest deficit Florida had faced in the past three seasons.

Vandy’s starting backcourt of Tyler Tanner and Duke Miles — who look like they could give plenty of opponents trouble in next week’s NCAA tournament — totaled 35 points and 15 assists. Jalen Washington scored 17 points off the bench for the Commodores.

Florida didn’t shoot well for the second straight game and might now have to answer questions about whether it deserves a No. 1 seed from the NCAA tournament selection committee. UConn (Big East) and Houston (Big 12) could make cases to jump the Gators if they win their respective conference tournaments.

The big question now isn’t whether Florida can come back. It’s whether the Gators can do enough in the final eight minutes to convince the NCAA selection committee that they deserve to hold onto a No. 1 seed for the tourney.
