Reuben Garrick steals a Newcastle flick pass and flies 50 metres upfield, but can’t find Jason Saab on his right and is tracked and slammed down by Dom Young.

He gets up and plays the ball, but there’s no-one there! So Bradman Best steals the ball and flies back the other way.

65′ Manly gets away with a blatant escort, but ball don’t lie

Sandon Smith kicks down a short side and Dom Young tries to fly for it, but is bumped away by Tolu Koula.

Young knocks on, but off the ensuing play, Lehi Hopoate fumbles and gives the ball right back to the Knights.

They get a penalty and decide to take the two points from a tricky angle.

But Sandon Smith pots it and the Knights lead 36-16 with 12 minutes left.

Sandon Smith kicks another one that looks destined to go too deep.

Jermaine McEwen is chasing but he’s shepherded off by Tom Trbojevic. It looks like Lehi Hopoate can let it go dead, but he decides to grab at it at the last second, fumbling it and turning it into a dropout.

The Knights spin it right and Fletcher Hunt unleashes Dom Young out wide. Tom Trbojevic reads it perfectly and gets across in cover, but Young is strong enough to bump him off and dive over for the ninth try of the day in the 47th minute of this match.

Newcastle held a 20-point lead at half-time but if there’s any team capable of turning that around on a sunny Sunday afternoon it’s Manly and they’ve made a start with a rampaging try to Haumole Olakau’atu.

After Luke Brooks makes a break down the left, the ball comes right and Tom Trbojevic offloads to Olakau’atu, who gets it from a standing start and takes off, breaking past Tyson Frizell and Bradman Best with barely a hand laid on him.

Got to say, between the MCL diagnosis and the substitution predictions, I’ve had a couple of rare correct calls there.

Newcastle halfback Dylan Brown got his left knee strapped up just before half-time, but he’s just been recorded in the Knights sheds with the strapping off.

And ABC Sport sideline reporter John Gibbs confirms he’s out for the rest of the game with an MCL injury.

“Half their salary cap, in one fell swoop, gone,” he says.

What are Newcastle’s options if Brown goes down?

The Knights started the season with a spine of Kalyn Ponga, Fletcher Sharpe, Dylan Brown and Phoenix Crossland.

Ponga and Sharpe are already gone, and now Brown looks shaky at best with a left knee injury.

He played the last few minutes of the half without having to do much of anything, and it will only get tougher as he cools down over the half-time break.

If he can’t make it back out, this will be the first real success of the six-man bench this season.

Coach Justin Holbrook has already had to activate Fletcher Hunt as a fullback replacement for Ponga, but if Brown needs to be replaced he may have to bring on hooker Harrison Graham and move Crossland into the halves for the rest of the game.

They probably have to make the decision early in the half, because they’ve already used Hunt, Tyson Frizell and Pasami Saulo off the bench, so they can only play one more out of Graham and back rowers Thomas Cant and Francis Manuleleua.

The half-time siren sounds as Sandon Smith pots the conversion, while Dylan Brown gets his left knee strapped up.

He doesn’t look particularly mobile, and we’ll wait and see if he comes out for the second half.

The Knights have already lost Kalyn Ponga for the game with ice on his right hamstring, so coach Justin Holbrook and the medical staff need to weigh up if it’s worth risking Brown doing more damage and missing weeks, or putting him on ice today and trying to hold on with this big lead.

Injuries be damned, the Knights are in again!

It’s another fumble, this time by Tom Trbojevic under the high ball, and Tyson Frizell swoops and scoops to score a gift.

I was watching Dylan Brown in the background (he doesn’t look great) and all of a sudden they’re in again!

Dylan brown bursts between Ben Trbojevic and Brandon Wakeham, throwing a sensational flick pass to Fletcher Hunt in support to score.

As the team celebrates, Brown is down in the background with a leg injury!

The trainer is checking the stability of his knee. He went down in the tackle from Tom Trbojevic and might have hurt his MCL based the way the trainer is checking him out.

He’s playing on, but it will be interesting to see if he comes back out after half-time. He looks in real pain.

He’s had a couple more runs, thrown a wayward pass, but he’s very laboured and straight off the field.

It seems like a hamstring or a groin, and he’s going straight into the sheds as Fletcher Hunt comes on to replace him.

He’s feeling at his right hamstring after scoring that try and Sandon Smith takes the conversion.

Ponga’s been whacked a couple of times in the past few minutes, so hopefully he can shake this off, but the fact he’s feeling at his leg suggests it’s more than just be a little rattled.

Kalyn Ponga looked really dusty after being flattened on a kick return, but he recovers in time to run support as Bradman Best bursts through the line.

Best does enough to draw Tom Trbojevic before passing to Ponga, who fends off the rapidly closing Jason Saab before falling over the line.

Tom Trbojevic sets up one off the scrum 10 metres out, he gets the ball, charges at Phoenix Crossland and just powers through him to slam the ball down.

That’s Turbo as a hammer, but we know he can be a scalpel too.
