Google has told the federal government that it is withholding a $20 billion investment in a massive Australian artificial intelligence and data centre hub because of the risk of exposing its broader operations to higher taxes.
The technology giant is assessing where to build its Asian hub, and Australia is among the leading candidates due to abundant land and sun, as solar power is likely to be used to power the sprawling site.
