SARASOTA, FL. (WBFF) — One aspect of Trevor Rogers being named the Orioles’ opening day starter that made the honor even better is that the left-hander is atop a rotation that he believes is elite.
Rogers on Friday was named Baltimore’s opening day starter on March 26 against the Minnesota Twins at Camden Yards — a distinction that would have been unthinkable 18 months ago when he was demoted to Triple-A Norfolk.
But Rogers revived his career to earn the job, and he believes that the pitchers who will follow him help make up a rotation that is being overlooked.
“I was talking to [pitching strategy coach Ryan Klimek], and he said, ‘This might be the most underrated rotation in all of baseball.’ I think we all agree,” Rogers said Saturday after his start against the Pittsburgh Pirates. “I think we all have that chip on our shoulder. I mean, this whole team does, just the way things ended up last year. We’re ready to compete and get after it this year and really give it a roll.”
