The death has taken place of one of Donegal’s best-known boxing coaches, Tommy Stewart.
The Strabane man was one of the found the founding members of Raphoe Boxing Club in 1988.
He was also the former president of the Donegal Boxing Board and also coached the Northern Ireland boxing team as well as traveling as a coach at international level with the Ireland team.
He was given honorary life membership of the Ulster Boxing Council in September, 2017.
Tommy also traveled overseas with Raphoe Boxing Club and was a hugely well-known and respected boxing coach throughout the country.
He was coach to Danny Ryan throughout his amateur and professional career bringing back multiple Ulster & Irish titles.
He attended many attended many multi-nation tournaments throughout the world.
As well as Raphoe Boxing Club, Tommy coached with Oakleaf Boxing Club in Derry and Ventures Boxing Club in Strabane in the 80s.
Late of Knockavoe Crescent in Strabane and formerly of Dunmore Gardens in Derry, Tommy Stewart was the beloved husband of Patricia, father of Tracy, father-in-law of Kevin, grandfather of Ryan, Aaron, Gavin and the late baby Conor; brother of Cathleen, Stephen, Billy and the late John.
His funeral will take place at St Mary’s Church, Melmount at 1.15pm on Tuesday.
