Speaking on Channel Seven’s Agenda Setters, Code Sports’ journalist David Riccio revealed that the Sea Eagles will give their head coach every opportunity to turn their fortunes around and are backing him to do so.

This comes after the club held a review meeting where the playing group took accountability for their poor form, which saw them lose to the Canberra Raiders and an understrength Newcastle Knights.
“My understanding is that a review meeting was held today where a lot of accountability was taken by the players,” Riccio said.
“They were honest about their own performances. That’s on them and the coach is only to blame so far.
“The key here is Seibold will be given a bit more time to dig himself out.”

While Seibold will have a few more matches to keep his job, former NRL playmaker Luke Keary stated that a change could happen sooner rather than later.
“I think they’re nearly ready to go (in another direction). The way they finished last year and he had the whole off-season to make changes,” Keary added.
This comes after Greg Alexander slammed the Sea Eagles for what he described as “one of the most insipid performances” he’s ever witnessed after they were only able to score on a try against a Knights side that was without Dylan Brown and Kalyn Ponga.
“They didn’t even come close to winning. It was one of the most insipid performances I’ve seen from a team,” Greg Alexander said on Fox League.
“They got through eight sets in the second-half. Newcastle were there to be beaten but Manly could not take advantage of it.”

COWBOYS HAND EXTENSION TO FORWARD
The North Queensland Cowboys have handed a contract extension to injured forward Thomas Mikaele which will keep him on the club’s books for at least another two seasons.
Set to return as early as Round 4 from a knee injury he sustained during their opening match in Las Vegas, Mikaele has re-signed until the end of the 2028 season.
This comes after he has become a vital member of Todd Payten’s forward pack and has featured in 23 matches for the club since his arrival in 2024.
The semi-veteran front-rower has also spent time with the Gold Coast Titans, Wests Tigers and Super League outfit, the Warrington Wolves.
“We are delighted Tom has agreed to extend his time in North Queensland,” Cowboys Recruitment Manager Clint Zammit said.
“Tom is a wonderful example of how hard work and dedication can change the trajectory of your career.
“He came to our club on a Development List contract after short stays at different clubs in the NRL and Super League and is now a vital member of our squad.
“He is a powerful runner of the ball and provides a point of difference to our attack with his offloading. We look forward to his contributions to our club on and off the field.”
