The Miami Dolphins had three linebackers hitting the market this offseason, but they’ve re-signed one of them, bringing back Willie Gay Jr. on a one-year deal for the 2026 season.

According to Over the Cap, Gay’s new deal includes a $1.22 million base salary ($500,000 of which is guaranteed) and a $187,500 signing bonus. His cap number for 2026 is $1.27 million.

If Miami were to release Gay at any point before Week 1, they’d save $575,000 while taking on a $687,500 dead cap hit. This likely means that Gay will be on the roster this year, as he serves as the top backup behind Jordyn Brooks and Tyrel Dodson.

The 28-year-old two-time Super Bowl champion appeared in 17 games for the Dolphins last year and recorded 20 tackles, two passes defensed and two sacks.
