EDMOND, OKLAHOMA – UT Tyler men’s golf is in solo eighth place after a cold and blustery day one of the Oak Tree Invitational at Oak Tree Country Club that saw them shoot 302 as a team.

High winds and cold weather forced the tournament to be shorted to 36 holes, with 18 being played on Monday beginning at 1:30 p.m. via shotgun start.

UT Tyler’s opening round of 22 over par will sit them just four shots outside of second place and 15 out of first after an impressive opening round from West Texas A&M has them 11 clear of the field.

Corbin Murray led the way for the Patriots with a three over par 73. The freshman made 13 pars, the second most in the field, to go with four bogeys and a birdie. His round has him sitting 10th on the individual leaderboard.

Blake Harwell and Preston DeSerrano followed with scores of 75 and 76. Harwell made a pair of birdies in his round and played the par threes in one under par, tied for the best mark of the field. DeSerrano made three birdies in his round to go with 10 pars, and his even par effort on the par fours was third best in the field.

The Patriots scoring was rounded out by Preston Chabaud, who fired a 78 in his first round while making a pair of birdies.

Jacob Holloway also competed for the Patriots, shooting a first round 82.

UT Tyler as a team played the par fours in 4.25 strokes, the third best mark in the field. They also added 51 total pars, the fourth best mark in the field.

The Patriots are well within striking distance of the top five and top three heading into Tuesday’s final round that is currently scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
