We’d like to welcome the newest member to the Mark Hughes Foundation Brain Cancer Care Coordinators Team (MHF BCCC).
Thanks to vital funds raised by trekkers in the MHF Kokoda ANZAC trek, Ti-Anna Tipper will join the team as MHF Paediatric Brain Cancer Care Coordinator and will work alongside our team of MHF Brain Cancer Care Coordinators in the Hunter New England Region.
Ti-Anna is a neuro-oncology clinical nurse specialist who’s been working in the Hunter for nine years and will be a valuable addition to the MHF BCCC team.
“I started my new graduate year in paediatrics at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in 2012. From then, I knew my nursing future would be based on caring for paediatric patients and their families,” Ti-Anna says.
A young family, and the lure of the Hunter brought Ti-Anna back home to Newcastle.
“I am originally from Newcastle and I was excited for the opportunity to come home and work with the team on J1 in the John Hunter Children’s Hospital.”
After working on the ward J1, the opportunity arose to step into a neuro oncology clinical nurse specialist role. “I have been doing this for the last three years and have witnessed incredible resilience and love in the face of adversity.”
Paediatric neuro oncology care is multifaceted and requires a holistic approach which aims to provide symptom control, emotional support, organisational support and can include planning for a new future that the child and their family had not foreseen.
“People may wonder, and sometimes I wonder why we choose this area to work in and whilst it can be heart breaking, it is also an incredible gift to work alongside a child and their family in such a difficult time of their lives,” Ti-Anna says.
We are thrilled to welcome Ti-Anna into the MHF Brain Cancer Coordinator Team to deliver care and support for our youngest brain cancer patients and their loved ones.
