There is a story that during World War II, in an attempt to fool the Allies, the Nazis built a fake wooden airfield, complete with wooden planes and aircraft hangars.
Fortunately, the Allies saw through the ruse. The Royal Air Force waited until the Germans had finished meticulously constructing their wooden airbase, then dropped a single fake wooden bomb on it.
