Curtis Scott has told a court that he did not receive the right care for a previous concussion in Las Vegas as the former NRL star fought to be released on bail following an alleged fight in Sydney’s CBD.

The alleged brawl left a young man hospitalised, with Mr Scott’s lawyer Paul McGirr telling a court that his client had his “come to Jesus moment” after spending a night behind bars.

Mr Scott was arrested on Tuesday and denied bail over an alleged fight that left an 18-year-old in hospital with facial injuries on Saturday night at Moore Park in Sydney’s east.

Police say the alleged victim had been involved in an argument with Mr Scott and his mother, both of whom were not known to him, before the alleged assault.

The former Melbourne Storm and Canberra Raiders star was arrested on Tuesday and denied bail, with Mr McGirr on Wednesday claiming this had been a wake-up call for his client.

“We conceded they’re serious matters, certainly members of the public were very fearful of their behaviour,” Mr McGirr said during a bail hearing on Wednesday morning.

“I believe, without saying whether my client’s guilty of anything or not guilty … he’s had his come to Jesus moment having spent a night in custody.

“He needs to get some help … (He is) prepared to get help.”

Mr McGirr also indicated that he wanted Mr Scott to be tested for a possible brain injury after suffering “one of the worst concussions” that he was aware ofwhile playing for United Sporting Club in the Las Vegas 9s last month.

“I don’t believe he got the right care and attention that he should have, but that will be part of what I want to happen moving down the track,” Mr McGirr said.

Mr Scott was handcuffed while he appeared in court via an audiovisual link, listening as the magistrate called the charges “serious and violent” before he was ultimately granted conditional bail.

He will be subject to a 10pm to 6am curfew and is not to enter the Sydney Cricket Ground as part of the conditions.

The 18-year-old man was taken to hospital for further treatment of facial injuries following the alleged incident, while Mr Scott allegedly assaulted a police officer and left the scene after police tried to speak with him on a tram at Moore Park Light Rail Station.

Mr Scott is facing charges of affray, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm.

His 55-year-old mother was also charged with common assault and hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty. She was granted bail to front court in April.
