The Masters isn’t just another golf tournament. It’s the tournament. Augusta National has produced drama, heartbreak, brilliance and moments that stick in the memory forever.

And with just over three weeks to go, practise rounds kick off Monday, April 6, before the first tee on Thursday, April 9, 2026; the countdown is well and truly on. Here are five Masters moments we still talk about.

Adam Scott Breaks Australia’s Drought [2013]

Adam Scott’s victory in 2013 marked a historic moment for Australian golf. Becoming the first Australian to claim a green jacket, Scott secured a playoff win over Ángel Cabrera, while fellow Australians Jason Day and Marc Leishman rounded out a strong top-four finish, giving the nation plenty to celebrate.

Nicklaus’ Ageless Charge [1986]

In 1986, Jack Nicklaus, age 46, became the oldest Masters champion in history. Six years after his previous win, Nicklaus shot a final-round 65 to outplay Greg Norman, Tom Kite and Seve Ballesteros, proving that experience and determination remain a winning combination.

Tiger Announces Himself [1997]

Tiger Woods’ first Masters triumph in 1997 was a defining moment in golf. At just 21 years old, Woods won by twelve strokes, setting records for the largest margin of victory and establishing himself as a generational talent who would go on to redefine the sport.

Mickelson’s Leap of Glory [2004]

Phil Mickelson’s dramatic win in 2004 is remembered for his now-iconic leap of joy. Capping off a final-round surge with a decisive putt on the 18th hole, Mickelson’s celebration captured the excitement and emotion that make Augusta National such a unique stage.

Where It All Began [1934]

The origins of the Masters date back to 1934, when Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts created a course on a former plant nursery and staged the inaugural “Augusta National Invitational.” That first tournament laid the foundation for decades of unforgettable moments, setting the tone for a legacy of excellence and historic achievements in the game of golf.
