Lucy Punch’s comedy series Amandaland is now trending on Netflix’s Top 10 chart. The Motherland spin-off arrived on the streaming service this week, and is currently the eighth most-watched show on the platform.

Amandaland stars Punch in the titular role as recently divorced Amanda, who has been forced to downsize and move from Chiswick to South Harlesden.

Her two children, Georgie and Manus, have reached their difficult teenage years, while her mother Felicity (Joanna Lumley) is still as overbearing as ever.

The show sees Phillippa Dunne reprising her Motherland role as Amanda’s loyal friend Anne, with Samuel Anderson, Siobhán McSweeney, Rochenda Sandall and Peter Serafinowicz also joining the cast.

Amandaland debuted its six-part first season in 2025, followed by a Christmas Special in December. A second instalment was officially commissioned by the BBC last year – with a release date yet to be confirmed.

“I’m beyond excited to get started on Amandaland series two with our brilliantly talented lovely cast,” Punch said at the time of the announcement.

“The Christmas special is going to be an absolute cracker – it’s like totes fire, with all the festive feels, for reals. Slay bells!”

The series currently holds an impressive 85% score on Rotten Tomatoes from 13 reviews. Critics praised Punch’s comedic timing and “magnetic” embodiment of the character.

“Original British comedy is enjoying a period of strength at the moment, and Amandaland has joined the ranks of the outstanding newcomers,” wrote Financial Times.

“Punch carries most of the heavy lifting with ease, and the result is not only a spin-off that punches above its weight: it is lovely, life-affirming escapism,” said The Times.

The Evening Standard added: “All this action and wit is upheld perfectly by Lucy Punch, who makes the turn from enjoyable side character to magnetic main character with unexpected, brilliant ease.”

Amandaland can be streamed on Netflix and BBC iPlayer.
