Unlike the annual World’s Safest Airline rankings published in January, these awards focus solely on the inflight product and passenger experience. Selected by the AirlineRatings team, they are based on measurable onboard criteria rather than public opinion or voting.
This year’s rankings once again classify airlines into full-service, low-cost, and hybrid categories, reflecting the industry as it stands today. We have also ranked the best Economy, Premium Economy, Business, and First Class cabins for 2026, which you can find here.

Qatar Airways has again taken the top spot, driven by a consistently strong onboard offering. Generous meals, extensive entertainment and, most importantly, clear value for money set it apart.

When commenting on the full service awards, CEO of AirlineRatings.com, Sharon Petersen, said, “It was a tight competition at the top, but Qatar’s value proposition, combined with a superior economy product and award-winning business class, secured that top position once again. One of the standout movers this year is Taipei-based STARLUX Airlines. With strong cabin service, high-quality catering, and modern interiors, it is rapidly establishing itself as a premium competitor, particularly as it prepares to expand into Europe later this year.
New York-based JetBlue and Poland’s LOT have moved from the hybrid to the full service category, reflecting a broader range of complimentary inclusions. JetBlue’s Mint Suite rivals larger carriers, offering one of the widest business class seats across the Atlantic.
The World’s Best Hybrid Airlines for 2026
As a relatively new concept, hybrid airlines offer a mix of onboard service, modelling low cost or full service depending on the length of flight. These airlines typically provide a buy-on-board menu for meals, larger snacks, and alcoholic beverages on short to medium-haul routes. Inflight entertainment, if available, is generally complimentary.
However, on medium to long-haul services, these carriers continue to offer a premium full-service economy product with seatback screens, a larger seat pitch, and amenities like blankets and pillows. These airlines also have an elevated business class experience featuring lie-flat beds and even suites with closing doors. European and American carriers have largely been forced to move to a hybrid model to remain competitive with the rise and popularity of low-cost carriers on the same or similar, short-to-medium-haul routes.

On Lufthansa topping the hybrid awards, Petersen said, “Lufthansa epitomises what we look for in the world’s best hybrid airline. It offers a low-cost model on short-haul routes across Europe with buy-on-board catering, a variable seat pitch of 29 to 30 inches, complimentary streaming of in flight entertainment via its FlyNet Wi-Fi portal, alongside bottled water and the airline’s iconic branded chocolate. The airline’s medium and long-haul aircraft deliver a comfortable, full-service product in economy and a luxury experience in business class, especially when travelling on the award-winning Allegris seat. Combined with efficient and easy connections through major hubs such as Munich and Frankfurt, Lufthansa is a clear leader in the hybrid category.”

On HK Express winning the World’s Best Low Cost Carrier award for the first time, Petersen said:
“HK Express may not appear the obvious choice for the world’s best low-cost carrier, forgoing extras like Wi Fi and inflight entertainment that many top 10 competitors now offer. However, where it wins is its consistently excellent cabin crew and undoubtedly the world’s best low-cost carrier onboard menu. The menu, which we have been able to sample, is a defining highlight, offering a true taste of traditional Hong Kong street food alongside a selection of international favourites. The culinary experience is as much a part of the journey as the destination itself.”
Jetstar, in second place, stood out for its onboard inflight entertainment options and in-seat power, while AirAsia, in third, impressed with its Fly Thru connection service, making it one of the first low-cost carriers to offer such reach. AirBaltic also stood out by providing all passengers with complimentary WiFi, an extra feature not typically expected from a low-cost carrier.

World’s Best Ultra-Low Cost Carrier

VietJet Air takes the top spot as the World’s Best Ultra Low Cost Carrier, recognised for its highly competitive fares, including Zero Dollar promotions, and rapid network expansion. The airline continues to stimulate demand across emerging markets while positioning for future long-haul growth, including Europe.
Wizz Air Group secures second place, reflecting its strong presence across Europe and highly efficient low-cost model. Initiatives such as Wizz Discount Club, Wizz Flex, Wizz MultiPass, and Wizz Privilege Pass continue to enhance flexibility and value while maintaining consistently low fares.

Porter Airlines has been named World’s Best Regional Airline, recognising its strong focus on passenger comfort within its regional market. The Canadian carrier has differentiated itself by offering complimentary beer and wine served in glassware, free high-speed Wi-Fi on its Embraer E195-E2 fleet, and a no-middle-seat configuration, enhancing comfort on short-haul routes. Combined with its expanding North American network and consistent onboard service standards, Porter continues to redefine expectations of regional air travel.
