WA Football, in collaboration with Country Football WA and the Perth Football League, has partnered with SportWest and The Road Safety Commission to provide grants to clubs and leagues targeting new innovations to reduce road trauma on WA roads.
Launched at the Perth Football League Beyond the Boundary Conference on Sunday, the partnership aims to change the road safety culture and behaviour of football players and the broader community.
The project aims to integrate education, behaviour change initiatives and community support to build a lasting impact on road safety culture across WA’s football community and broader population.
Through the grants program, community football clubs across the state can apply for up to $1,500 to support initiatives that share, educate and champion road safety messaging.
Football leagues and WAFL clubs can apply for up to $3,000 to run an all-of-league road safety campaign.
Examples of initiatives that clubs can apply for include social media campaigns, road safety education sessions, apparel or equipment with road safety messaging.
Chris Bandy, Executive Manager – Participation and Program Strategy at WA Football, believes the initiative is a critical way to educate young drivers.
“WA Football supports initiatives promoting the safety of players both on and off the field,” Bandy said.
“Through this initiative, clubs will be able to increase awareness and educate their players, especially those aged 16 to 20, on the importance of safer driving.
“WA Football is pleased to be supporting the Best on Road initiative in partnership with the Road Safety Commission, Sportwest, Country Football WA and the Perth Football League.”
