It appeared that the Denver Broncos had made their first outside signing of free agency on Wednesday evening, but the news was apparently a false alarm.
Yanni Tragellis of WKRC-TV in Cincinnati tweeted that Cincinnati Bengals free agent safety Tycen Anderson told him he’s signing a one-year deal with the Broncos. Moments later, James Rapien of BengalsTalk.com reported the same news.
A few hours after those initial reports, however, Parker Gabriel of the Denver Post tweeted that the Broncos have not reached an agreement with Anderson, and a source told Gabriel a deal between the team and safety was “nowhere close.” Rapien then wrote a follow-up story that said the safety told him he remains an unsigned free agent.
Signing the 26-year-old defensive back for special teams contributions and safety depth might still be an option for Denver, but a deal hasn’t been agreed to — at least not yet. We’ll see if that changes.
