“Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance (MICA) paramedics assessed and treated one patient at the scene,” an Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said.
She was taken to The Alfred hospital in a serious but stable condition with upper body injuries.
The 16-year-old boy fled the scene and was arrested a short time later at a medical centre in Clayton, police allege.
He has been charged with intentionally causing injury, recklessly causing injury, assault with a weapon, possessing a controlled weapon, theft and committing an indictable offence whilst on bail.
The boy, from the Stonnington area, was remanded to appear at a children’s court at a later date.
M-City Shopping Centre management has deployed additional security as a precautionary measure.
