Samsung has released an update for the Camera Assistant app for the Galaxy S26 series. The update (version 4.5.00.20) brings a small but useful change: the option to enable 24MP resolution in Photo mode is now available directly in the main Camera Assistant settings.
Previously, the 24MP option was buried inside the Advanced resolution options submenu, which meant many users may not have been aware of it. We would still prefer to see the 24MP option available directly in the main camera app, without requiring the Camera Assistant app. But until Samsung makes that change, this is the next best thing.
The Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra are the first Samsung phones to offer a 24MP shooting option in the standard Photo mode, even if it requires installing the Camera Assistant app first. On earlier flagships, including the Galaxy S25 series, 24MP is only available in Expert RAW mode.
24MP photos strike a balance between detail and processing. They offer more detail than 12MP shots without the trade-offs of shooting at 50MP or 200MP. Higher resolutions can sometimes result in overexposed highlights, especially in bright areas like the sky, which isn’t an issue with 24MP photos.

Galaxy S26 users can enable the 24MP option in Photo mode by opening the Camera Assistant app and going to the 24MP resolution menu. They can also enable the Keep 24MP resolution option, which ensures the camera stays set to 24MP every time the app is opened.
