Three crew members have been hospitalised after they were launched into the air when a Delta flight from Los Angeles to Sydney hit turbulence this morning.

A Delta Air Lines A350, with 245 passengers and 15 crew members on board, encountered “brief turbulence” during descent but was able to safely land.

The airline said four flight attendants and no passengers were injured in the commotion.

NSW Ambulance said they assessed five people.

Three of those were taken to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital with minor injuries after being “launched into the air”. 

Delta Airlines said the safety of their crew and passengers was their utmost priority. 

“Delta flight 41 from Los Angeles encountered brief turbulence upon descent into Sydney, and four flight attendants reported injuries,” the airline said in a statement.

“Nothing is more important than the safety of our people and our customers, and our priority is taking care of the impacted crew members.”

Flight data showed the Delta aircraft arrived in Sydney at 6.48am today (AEDT) after departing Los Angeles at 10.11pm on Wednesday (local time).

Delta Air Lines operates flights to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane to the US.
