South Australian One Nation candidate Aoi Baxter has a warrant for his arrest in the UK for failing to show up to court after he was charged with an alleged sexual offence.

A UK court has confirmed that Aoi Baxter, also known as Trent Baxter, was charged with sexually touching a woman without consent.

“Mr Baxter in the UK has a warrant for arrest without bail [for] not attending the court,” a representative from the crime division of His Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Service told the ABC.

“Should you know of his location, it would assist the court and relevant authorities.”

The court officer stated the charges related to a breach of the Sexual Offences Act and events occurring on September 25, 2023.

Mr Baxter did not respond to multiple requests for comment. One Nation issued a statement after receiving questions from the ABC.

“One Nation has today been made aware by the media of allegations regarding the party’s candidate for Adelaide, Aoi Baxter,” the statement said.

“To the best of our understanding, Mr Baxter may have [a] warrant in the United Kingdom for failing to appear at a court hearing. This was not disclosed to One Nation by Mr Baxter. It’s unclear if this relates to the same individual.

“One Nation will cooperate fully with law enforcement regarding this matter.”

The party spokesperson said a “nation-wide police check” had been completed on Mr Baxter, as it had with all candidates, but “no issues were discovered”.

“The party takes this matter seriously, and is seeking more information. This includes whether or not other parties may have obtained this information earlier and chose not to disclose it when it came to hand.”

Mr Baxter’s profile was removed from One Nation’s website shortly after the statement was released.

Mr Baxter’s now-deleted candidate profile on One Nation’s website described him as a 31-year-old “new generation One Nation candidate” with a “career in the Australian Defence Force” and small business operations.

Australian business records show Mr Baxter changed his name from Trent Baxter to Aoi Scott Baxter in July 2025.

Mr Baxter has owned several businesses in Australia since 2014, including Aoi Creative and two companies that are registered under the same name in the UK: The Pressery Limited and Parcel Agency.

UK corporate records list Mr Baxter’s birth date as December 1994, and his company, The Pressery, is registered to the address of a pub in Milnthorpe, in north-west England.

When the ABC contacted the pub for comment, the manager confirmed Mr Baxter was Australian and a previous employee. The woman was also aware of the sexual offence charge, but said it occurred at another venue.

“I had hoped his ship had sunk on the way back to Australia,” the manager said.

A local news outlet covered the case, reporting the alleged sexual assault occurred in Milnthorpe, the same town as the pub and Mr Baxter’s business.

“Trent Baxter, 28, of no fixed address, is alleged to have intentionally touched a woman aged 16 or over in a sexual manner when she did not consent,” the Westmorland Gazette reported in September 2023.

“The offence is said to have taken place in 2022. Mr Baxter is due before Barrow Magistrates’ Court on September 25.”

One Nation media representative Richard Henderson was initially defensive when asked about the UK charges: “Sexual offence charge? Charge but not conviction, right?”

However, when informed by the ABC that the UK courts had a warrant for his arrest and were seeking information about his location, Mr Henderson said, “I think you might have the wrong person”.

“He’s not doing interviews with the ABC over this crap. Forget that,” he said on the morning prior to One Nation’s statement being released.

“I’ll look into it.”

Mr Baxter has made headlines in recent weeks for contesting the seat of Adelaide, having only moved to the city in mid-2025.

One Nation issued a statement on Wednesday, defending the candidate.

“You can tell the Uniparty is getting desperate after their latest coordinated attempt to team up and smear One Nation’s candidate for the seat of Adelaide, Aoi Baxter,” One Nation posted on social media.

“This latest bizarre attack on a veteran shows there is no limit to how low they are prepared to go.”

Mr Baxter’s now-deleted candidate profile also listed volunteer work:

“Aoi has a long-standing commitment to community service and volunteering. He has worked closely with charitable and volunteer organisations including Rotary, Disaster Relief Australia, and mental health initiatives such as Movember — experiences that have reinforced his belief that communities are built through action, not empty promises.”

A Rotary spokesperson said there was no record of any individual under Aoi Baxter, but records confirmed a historical membership in regional New South Wales under Trent.

“A Trent Baxter was briefly a member of the Rotary Club of Queanbeyan in 2013 [for less than six months]. He is not a current Rotary member,” the spokesperson said.

The ADF, Disaster Relief Australia and Movember were contacted for comment.

Australian corporate records show one of Mr Baxter’s businesses, AOI Creative, was registered to an address in Sussex Inlet on the NSW South Coast.

The property is owned by Frederick Baxter, who denied knowledge of Mr Baxter or his businesses when contacted by the ABC.

“I don’t know him,” he said.

“I live here on my own.”
