Police are searching for a man who stabbed a 71-year-old man three times in an early morning attack in inner Melbourne, a day after a woman was stabbed by a stranger at a shopping centre.Â
Investigators said the older man was walking near Crichton Reserve in Port Melbourne about 5:20am when he was approached by an unknown man.
He was stabbed three times.

The victim was walking along Liardet St when he was attacked.
Police said the victim fled to a nearby cafe on Bay Street where he raised the alarm, and was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
On Thursday a 16-year-old boy was charged after allegedly stabbing a 25-year-old woman inside a shopping centre in Melbourne’s south-east.
The woman was walking to work at M-City Shopping Centre in Clayton around 7:50am when she was attacked, and was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.
The boy, from the Stonnington area, was charged with a number of offences including intentionally causing injury, and committing an indictable offence while on bail.Â
The latest crime statistics for Victoria, released this week, showed crime rose 2 per cent in 2025, with police seizing a record 17,400 knives and machetes.Â
