There could be major changes to the Gresini and VR46 MotoGP rider line-ups for the 2027 season.

While Gresini’s reigning title runner-up Alex Marquez has long been linked to a factory KTM seat, team-mate Fermin Aldeguer might also be on the move.

Although Ducati is certain to take up its option on Aldeguer, a race winner in his rookie MotoGP season, AS.com reports that the Spaniard will be placed at VR46, Ducati’s factory-supported satellite team.

Aldeguer is making his 2026 debut this weekend in Goiania, after missing pre-season testing and the Thai Grand Prix due to a femur fracture in winter training.

Should he join Valentino Rossi’s team, Aldeguer would become the first non-Italian to race for VR46, with either Fabio di Giannantonio or Franco Morbidelli needing to make way.

VR46 had targeted KTM star Pedro Acosta, but the current championship leader is widely expected to join the factory Ducati team alongside Marc Marquez.

Gresini has won MotoGP races with all five riders it has signed since switching from Aprilia to Ducati machinery in 2022, while also providing a pathway for Enea Bastianini and Marquez to join the factory Lenovo team.

AS.com adds that not only is Gresini’s 2027 rider line-up unclear, but the team is yet to officially extend its Ducati contract.

Aldeguer and Morbidelli are the only Ducati riders not competing on factory-spec GP26 machinery this season. However, sweeping technical changes mean all riders will start on new bikes for the new 850cc era.
