50′: Vai hits back for Blues
Waratahs 20-13: NSW held out the first wave of attack but they couldn’t deny Cody Vai a second time.
It’s a sharp backline move from set-piece with Beauden Barrett swinging left to right for Vai to finish in the corner.
Barrett’s conversion hangs right and we’re back to a seven-point game – extra spice as Payton Spencer joins the fray to make his Blues debut.
47′: Blues up the ante
Waratahs 20-8: The Blues aren’t accustomed to trailing the Tahs – and they don’t like it this evening.
Cody Vai makes a sharp break out of their own half and it leads to a line out deep in Tahs territory.
Can the visitors hit back from an attacking line out inside NSW’s 22m?
44′: Harvey three stretches lead
Waratahs 20-8: Sid Harvey has pushed the margin out to 12 with an early penalty goal from long range.
Blues pinged for a ruck infringement and the fullback strikes truly from 45m.
41′: Second half is underway
Waratahs 17-8: We’re back up and running here at Allianz – and the Tahs can make some real history by holding on tonight.
NSW haven’t led the Blues at half time for 11 years and haven’t tasted victory against them in a decade.
Can the Tahs stay the course for a famous win? Stay tuned to find out!
HALF TIME: Waratahs 17 lead Blues 8
A frustrating half ends in joy for the home side, who lead by nine at the break.
Plenty of chances went begging but tries to Debreczini and Lambert have the Tahs up 17-8 over the fancied Blues.
40+’: Lambert bags Tahs’ second try
Waratahs 17-8: NSW strike again before the break!
The Tahs worked hard to earn a penalty after the restart and start banging away on the line.
Tom Lambert is the man who gets there, awarded a try after a TMO review.
Harvey adds the extras and the Tahs lead by nine.
39′: Barrett closes the gap
Waratahs 10-8: Another penalty to the Blues inside NSW’s red zone and the visitors opt for three points.
Unsurprising given how little possession they’ve had.
Barrett slots it from dead in front and closes the gap to two.
37′: Blues storming back
Waratahs 10-5: The visitors have shifted gears as half time closes in.
Back-to-back penalties have sent the Blues storming upfield and they’ll lay siege inside the Tahs’ 22m.
34′: Poolman goes close
Waratahs 10-5: NSW replacement George Poolman was a bounce away from the Tahs’s second try there!
Poolman chased a sharp kick in behind the line but the oval ball betrays him and the Blues escape once more.
31′: Debs makes amends – Tahs touch down
Waratahs 10-5: The Waratahs are in front – but it isn’t without controversy!
NSW bounced back from their early disappointments with a sharp breakdown steal and they cash in on a flat bouncing pass from Miles Amatosero to Debreczini, who’s the only Tah playing on.
The try stands, NSW finally have their lead and the crowd erupts.
28′: Debreczini bombs a certain try
Blues 5-3: NSW are doing everything but score tries at Allianz Stadium tonight.
Flyhalf Jack Debreczini sliced the Blues open and set off for the line – but tried to offload a pass 5m from home after spotting the cover defence closing in.
The Tahs support couldn’t hold on and the visitors escape again!
25′: Potter coughs up over the chalk
Blues 5-3: NSW fans are pulling their hair out after Harry Potter fails to ice a sweeping Tahs backline play.
Jorgensen again sweeps right to left, creating space for Harvey and Potter to link up but Potter can’t hold on under heavy attention from the Blues cover defence.
He’s since come from the field with a potential HIA – George Poolman is on for NSW.
22′: NSW scrum goes to work, Harvey sinks three
Blues 5-3: The Tahs might have not have found the try line – but their scrum is finally yielding points.
NSW’s pack had already forced two penalties on their own feed.
This time, they put the squeeze on the Blues feed, earn a full-arm, and Harvey slots a long-range three.
19′: Gordon held up by Barrett
Blues 5-0: Another Tahs raid – another Blues defusal!
This time it’s Jake Gordon held up by Beauden Barrett over the try line.
Blues drop out, Tahs run it back once more – and lose possession.
Wrampling back on for the Blues who emerge unscathed from their yellow card.
17′: Ahki stops Adamson – but Tahs keep hammering
Blues 5-0: How are the Blues keeping out these Tahs?
It’s desperate scramble again from the visitors with Jamie Adamson held up by veteran centre Pita Ahki.
NSW still with the penalty advantage – and the Blues need to be careful here. Already down a man and the penalties are piling up thanks to the Tahs’ scrum.
14′: Dobbins through the gap
Blues 5-0: NSW fans are on their feet after hooker Ethan Dobbins busts the Blues open, kicks ahead and forces an attacking 5m scrum.
Dobbins’ chip was hunted by Pete Samu, who makes the clutch tackle on Caleb Clarke in-goal.
11′: Harvey goes within a whisker
Blues 5-0: The Waratahs go agonisingly close to their first try – but the Blues scramble is superb.
Max Jorgensen put Sid Harvey into space and the fullback was dragged down inches from the line, the visitors eventually getting back behind the ball and holding the next wave of Tah attack over the chalk.
7′: Advantage Tahs as Blues see yellow
Blues 5-0: Malachi Wrampling is in the sin bin for a high shot on Lawson Creighton.
Waratahs with a one-man advantage for the next 10 minutes but they can’t convert from an attacking lineout 10m out as Walton knocks on.
3′: Blues strike first through Christie
Blues 5-0: It’s all too easy for the visitors as Finlay Christie dots down from close range five phases after the lineout.
Bradley Slater looked to have grounded first but was caught just short of the chalk, Christie backing up from the ruck base.
Beauden Barrett can’t add the extras from close range – but the Blues are firing early.
1′: Tahs under pressure early
NSW fail to take the kick-off cleanly and give away a half-arm penalty for accidental offside.
It’s compounded by a penalty and the Blues will hunt an early try from a 5m line out platform.
