A man in his 30s has been shot by police at a shopping centre south of Brisbane after allegedly approaching police with a knife.

Police were called to Carmondy Centre on Ewing Road, near Carmody Street in Logan Central, on Saturday about 6pm, following reports of a man armed with a knife and making threats.

Queensland police say officers attempted to negotiate with the man, but he approached them with a weapon and was shot in the abdomen.

Police say they treated the man with first aid before he was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

He remains there in a stable condition.

A crime scene has been declared.

No-one else was hurt during the incident and there was no ongoing risk to public safety.
