Australia’s Jessica Hull and Kurtis Marschall have won bronze medals at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Toruń, Poland.
Their podium finishes came a day after Australian teammate Nicola Olyslagers won silver in the women’s high jump.
Hull contested a dramatic women’s 3,000 metres final, clocking 8 minutes and 58.18 seconds to finish behind Italy’s Nadia Battocletti (8:57.64) and American Emily Mackay (8:58.12).
Aussie Olyslagers claims silver
She accidentally pushed over the race favourite, Ethiopian Freweyni Hailu, while trying to keep her balance after being shoved from behind.
Spaniard Marta García was later disqualified for her clumsy push on Hull, while defending champ Hailu worked wonders to get back up groggily and finish sixth.
Hull decided to attack from two laps out and led at the bell.
But she was pipped by fast-finishing Battocletti, with Mackay edging out the Australian for silver.
“I made my move with 400 (metres) to go and I wasn’t sure if it would be enough,” said Hull, who won bronze in the same event at last year’s world indoor titles.
“I am still learning these things. Outdoors and indoors are two different sports for me, and you have to more tactically aware indoors.”
Hull will compete in the women’s 1,500m final on Monday morning AEDT.

Marschall equalled his personal best of 6.00m in the men’s pole vault to finish behind Sweden’s Olympic champion and world record holder, Armand Duplantis (6.25m), and Greek Emmanouil Karalis (6.05m).
The trio filled the same placings at last year’s world outdoor titles in Tokyo.
“In this day and age, you have to jump six metres to get a medal,” Marschall said.
“I feel like I’m just a six-metre guy now and it’s reassured me in the top three in the world.”
Meanwhile, Australians Peter Bol and Hayley Kitching earned impressive semifinal wins in the respective men’s and women’s 800m events.
Bol won his semifinal in 1:46.21.
“The goal is always to win the gold, so I am looking forward to the final,” Bol said.
Kitching triumphed in her semifinal via a time of in 2:00.06.
